It was uncomfortable for me not to attend the Powerzone Youth Service @ Teatrino today. I was all set, I was just waiting for 12NN to tick and I’ll be off to Greenhills. I was reading notes from SAP’s lessons for the time being not wasted. 15 minutes before 12 I fell asleep and woke up around 12:30. I’m already having second thoughts of going or not. I was having a head ache again until I decided not to come. I sent Jose, Emman and Maris SMS that I won’t be coming. Well I want to minister but I don’t think I’ll do good because I’m having a headache. At the end of the day, I didn’t go.
And now I am reading PDL, and messages have caught me. In Chapter 33, “How Real Servants Act”, it says in the first sentence, “We serve by serving others”. The word “serve” has pre-occupied in my mind since Friday. It’s because of those introduce-yourself-questions and I gave not so satisfying answers. Later I’ve come up an asnwer to the question “What makes you happy?”. I just really can’t think of a concrete answer during that time. And the answer: serving others makes me happy. when other become happy when I help them, I become happpy.
And in relation to the decision that I just made today in not doing to the Powerzone because of headache has strucked me on the essence of true servanthood. “Real Servants are faithful to their ministry. Servants finish their taks, fulfill their responsibilities, keep their promises and complete their commitments. They on’t leave a job half undone, and they don’t quit when they get discouraged.”
It’s just ironic that when I was in position of a leader of my college organization, I know all these things. I even expect my people to do this.. finish their taks, fulfill their responsibilities, keep their promises and complete their commitments. But in the church ministry that I am involved right now, I’m being the opposite!
At least I am learning today. “Just do the no-so-great stuff, and God will assign you whatever he wants you to do.” It is true that the race to be a leader is crowded but the field is wide open for those willing to be servants.
In Matthew 25:10, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”. The most significant service is often the service that is unseen.
*Real servants maintain a low profile.
“If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.” I hope to remember this verse always.
