SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT

I miss going to school! I miss studying! I miss school projects! I miss the variety of my life! I miss a lot of things!

I suddenly get to compare my life in college and my life now at work. There are things that I like better when I was still a student and of course there are things I like the way it is now.

If Sarah has her version of HighSchool vs. College, I’m gonna have my version of College vs Work.

Travelling.

In College, if you have a student involvement such as orgs, most likely you will have activities that are held out of town and most of the time — it’s free.

When you are already working, you still get to go out of town through team buildings and “tamang trip” outings but most likely — it would be ALL EXPENSE PAID by your wallet =)

Deadlines.
There are tons of these in college. Hello semestral?(Although it’s trimestral in our case). With this set-up, you definitely will have a lot of deadlines to meet on all your subjects.

Time.
In College, you definitely have the whole CONTROL of all your time(this is specially if you came from the province and probably just renting a place somewhere in NCR and you got no guardian around but yourself). You get to choose your own subject schedules! You can freely adjust or cancel an appointment or meet-up with a friend. You get to choose if you do not want to attend tomorrow’s class. You get so excited when there’s a holiday coming orany possible suspension of classes. You get to attend a lot of events!

When you are already working as full time in your respective companies, you have 8 hours a day(9 hours for my case) stuck in front of your monitor(if you’re in the IT industry) or probably in the “field” or just “in the office” for the others. That’s 8 hours exlcuding of course your breaks and travel time =).

Sleepless nights.
It’s very popular in college pulling an all-nighter in a group mate’s house. Projects and Theses! I remember reading 1 Psychology Book from cover to cover just to make up for a missed 20-30 item-Quiz.

When you are at work, not very much likely to have sleepless nights except only if you also have a Deadline to meet. This still depends on the type of work you hav but not on my part.

People.
At college, you get to meet a lot of people especiallpy if you are not the block type of classes and have different sets of classmates per term!

It still varies on the type of job or company you are now. As to where I work now, it’s inevitable if you work for a company with over 16000 employees offshore alone.

Get-Up(what-a-word!)
In college, you must be wearing your own school’s uniforms or probably always on your casual wears.
If you are at work, you’ll be required to be in either Corporate, Business Casual or Smart casual.

Crushes =)
Still the same! LOL

Allowance vs. Salary.

Obviously, it’s called an allowance if you are still a student and it’s called your hard earned salary if you’re working. Salary doesn’t sound so good to me. I’d like to call it PROFIT or INCOME someday =)

Homeworks.
No homeworks when you’re at work. If you leave the office, it’s already Out-Office-Hours – created and designed to live you non-work life.

Involvements and Engagements.

Pretty much the same for me. Both in college and now in work, there are opportunities in organizing and participating events! It’s just that now in my work, you do that beyond your working hours.

Learnings

When you are in college, your main purpose is to learn and prepare yourself on how to survive on your own. Or in short prepare yourself for work. :P At work, you will still have to learn – A LOT!
